It looks like this raven is pretending to look straight ahead but is actually looking through the side of his eye, waiting to see who makes the first move.
Very nice paintng. Thx Nancy.

Poetic Artist said...

Raven you are feared for they say you come from the dark.
Your feathers dark of night and your eyes seem as black as the core of the earth.
The dreams you come into at night,
bring the wind of coldness and dread of death.
Silly are we humans, for it is just another bird created for our own delight. Yet it is placed in the shadow of our minds to speak of it Nevermore.

Stephen Dell'Aria said...

'Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore -
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking `Nevermore.'

E.A. Poe

James Parker said...

CROAKED THE RAVEN...

It came in uninvited,
Upon a midnight dreary,
I'd been writing poems all day,
And my mind was getting weary.

It started squawking noisily
As it flew in through the door,
Some silly nonsense sounding like,
"I'm in Love With Demi Moore"

It took off to the window,
Cawing loudly, "Vote For Gore",
Then came and landed on my desk,
With the words, "End Hunger, Feed the Poor"

I was really tired that night,
And getting rather sore.
So I got my gun and shot him,
Quoth the raven, "Nevermore!"

Maestro Poe.

RAUCOUS

Here's a blue background more hue-raucous
than the one fierce raven standing against it.
So raucous you cover your ears first, then
your eyes. Were it painted on a larger canvas
filled with a flock of ravens, this blue would shriek
a crack-of-the-dawn warning. "Wake up. Time to
scatter away the craven dreams." So would say
such a blue: this Aegean-splashing peacock.

Tweedles -- that's me said...

A Raven or Country Crow,
It's a all the same to me,
A wise bird I think I am,,
and have so much to say.
I caw and fly, there does not have to be a reason. I have a heart that beats, and I have a purpose.
I am wise.

Meandering Michael said...

If I Were a RavenSung to the Tune "The More We Get Together"If I were a raven, a raven, a raven
If I were a raven, I'd soar through the air
I'd float high on breezes
Much softer than sneezes
If I were a raven, I'd soar through the air

If I were a raven, I'd make lots of noise
Shout "glock, glock" and "croak, croak"
At house pets I'd provoke
Oh, If I were a raven, I make lots of noise

If I were a raven, I'd play lots of games
I'd scream down your stovepipe
Steal trinkets we both like
Oh, If I were a raven, I'd play lots of games

If I were a raven, I'd feast on road-kill
Eat squirrels and old trash
Steal dog food in a flash
Oh, If I were a raven, I'd feast on road-kill

Why do I find ravens spooky? Probably Mr. Poe's fault! Wonderful how Holly has managed to capture that blue sheen of the feathers so well in her painting.
