Family are our friends too...but they are the family we choose.

I love this painting...or I should say this family....they are all happy...smiling...

WHY? said...

I despised my father most of my childhood because he would never acknowledge any good I did. Yet, he was an extremely boastful man. It wasn't until my mid twenties when I realized how insecure he was, and learned that he had been emotionally neglected as a child.

I visited the artist's site and it looks like a great place to visit. I like being introduced to new blogs. I will backtrack on the blog, but from what I see of it, I like it already.
Family is the secret to a happy life. Thx for sharing.

Even though I moved 3,000 miles from kith and kin
Today we are much closer than, I think, we've ever been.

Hi, in Texas, and on the run..

WHO NEEDS MARS?

Cats from Mars is what we are,
At least that's what I think,
We've got 2 legs, and bright green eyes,
And faces Day-Glo Pink.

We don't eat fish or mice,
And really can't stand meat
But you can plainly see, for us,
Blue pizza is a treat.

We started up a family,
Two kittens we've given birth,
So we won't go back to Mars,
Cause we like it here on Earth.

Another great piece from Arthur. The rhythm in he's work is exceptional.

(poem by Therese L. Broderick of Albany, NY, USA)

FIRST, DO NO HARM

My cat, now twelve, is losing weight--
his thyroid bewitched.
Twice a day, I rub a dab of gel
on the thin tissue of his inner ear.
I will follow that method of treatment…
for the benefit of my patient…
He doesn't like how my hands,
once honest, now pin him to his cushion
against his will. Dubious healing, this
sleight-of-hand. Or tough love--
what our maladies often run away from :
love measured in proper dosages,
applied at disciplined intervals.
…and abstain from whatever
is harmful or mischievous…
Also, the reason that so many of us
let loose from the human tribe,
leash ourselves instead to a pet’s
benign, silent loyalties…this Oath
unviolated…Recently, I've begun hiding
evidence of coming interventions--
the calibrated syringe, plastic gloves,
packets of gel--all now inside a cupboard.
…I will neither treat any patient…
without the valid informed consent…
The vet tells me that the stash
will expand, and that his prescriptions,
like spells, will multiply by winter.
After each treatment, the cat runs
downstairs to his own basement
hiding place where, I predict,
he licks his paws. Feline ablutions.
…all such should be kept secret…
Why did I not notice, for eight long lives,
the cilia – their sorcery – in his ears?
