I haven't been on a swing in such a long time. I'm almost tempted to go to the park and just ride to my hearts desire.

She looks at the shadow and knows it's a shadow because her mother told her so.

still she thinks, how can I be down there if I'm up here?

Have a great Thursday Nancy. Take care.

Nancy -- glad you liked it. Don't forget though that it is made up, but some of the Wednesday women this week was real, as in birthday, but there was not a birthday thrown by my son. I was just laughing at myself too, knowing that it has to be real and I am not the second coming; no matter who may think it.

har har har

Glad you loved it.

Love Renee xoxo

I would tell her that she can always swing as high as she wants. That she can do anything she chooses, be anyone she wants to be and to never let anyone tell her differently.

And, Michelle, you would be giving her good advice. :-)

MY CREATION

I love to watch my shadow,
When I play upon my swing.
It rushes up to greet me,
Then goes away again

My shadow gets much smaller,
The higher that I go,
And as I come back down,
That's when it starts to grow.

I know that blocking sunlight
Forms the shadow that I see
But to me it's very special
Cause it was made by me.

The simple pleasures of childhood cannot be bested by anything we do later in life.

WHY? said...

I would tell her to always believe in her dreams, no matter how far fetched they may seem!

swing high little one- may you always remember the feeling of bare feet, summer breeze, total control and all shadows before you where you can see them, rather than behind you where you cant........

This is such a lovely photo, full of candor, full of joviality; simply adorable..

Vanessa you are too good.

Here is a poem, i wrote for my new born nephew, may be the sweet girl can get a couple of messages from it -

Life is so beautiful
and you are an example..
Life is full of colors
and you are a true sample..
Life is full of happiness
wish you get that in ample..
Don't let even a slight wrinkle
find a place on your sweet temple..

While getting massaged
the expressions on your face
were a sight to catch..
And those calisthenics
suggest as if a gymnast
getting ready for a match..

Seeing you truly makes one believe
that someone up there is surely an artist
Your dad wants you to be a surgeon
i would rather tell you to be a guitarist

Grow up quickly
and decide on your own..
whether to play chords
or research some clone..

Reach for the skies
but never be arrogant..
Search for the stars
but never be ignorant..
do things in life that
makes everyone jubiliant..

It was a beautiful day at the park. All of the neighbourhood kids were running around and playing tag. I didn't feel like playing, so I sat on the swing and watched them.

A girl came over and offered to give me a push. I had never seen her before and thought that maybe she was new to the area. She was a lot smaller than me and kind of shy-looking.

It's a lot less work when someone else pushes, so I thanked her and said yes. She moved behind me and I got ready for the first push.

Let me tell you, that little girl was a lot stronger than she looked! With just one push, she sent me flying out on the swing, up, and over the bar, down the other side, and around and around and around again until the chain was all wrapped up and I fell to the ground.

Ever since that day, I've never let anyone push me around.

I pump my bare legs on this creaking swing as she glides back and forth over the crispy grass. Who is this girl that has come to play with me? A copy cat is what she is, silent by my side, hiding from the summer sun. She is the strangest girl I've ever met, there are no eyes or freckles on her face and you can only see her upturned nose above her thin lips when I turn to the side.
Man is she fast, fast as me. We had a race when mother rang the lunch bell, neck and neck past the barn but I lost her in the field until she caught up rounding the corner of Grandma's potting shed.
Wriggling my toes in the cooling sunlight I let time slow as I face sky then ground, sky then ground. Crickets call like a buzzing mother for my friend to return home and as my own mother rings the bell for super I watch as that shy little girl fades into the evening shadows.

SEATED FIGURES

In the museum of Greek antiquities,
one gallery guard has gone on break,
leaving his black metal chair vacant
until two teenage girls from a school group
studying their country's treasures
realize that their sandaled feet are tired,
deciding together to sit on that seat,
one on the other's lap, friends as close
as the many mortals in marble and clay
captured all around them, here, just
before or after some great betrayal.

A Cuban In London said...

'Why do shadows have to change sides? They 're behind me in the morning and in front of me in the afternoon.

They remind me of Bibi. She is my friend in the morning and we always fall out after lunchtime. Bibi is not from here. She came from far away, at least that's what our teacher said. She said that Bibi's country was going through a terrible war. Maybe they were fighting over shadows? Sometimes Bibi would look out the window and start crying for no reason. My mum said that that was her memory playing tricks on her. How can your memory play tricks on you. My memory is not like my shadow, my memory helpsme do my Maths homework. That way I can come out in the garden to play on the swing. Will Bibi have a swing in her house? Will she have had a swing back home? Did she ever have a shadow?'

Greetings from London.

Here's something I wrote: one day in august

love the "A Cuban in London" poem, I like the viewpoint and the shadow lines in the beginning, there's a childlike wonder to the whole piece
