A Cuban In London said...

'If ostriches can do it, why not me?'

Note: It's been now proved by scientists that ostriches DO NOT bury their heads in the ground. But still, I think most people will carry on believing the opposite.

Greetings from London.

MARLBORO COUNTRY COOKING

I've been hooked on cigarettes,
For forty years or more,
Of course I know they're harmful,
That's a fact I can't ignore.

I just keep right on puffing,
Many times I've tried to quit,
It seems I just can't do a thing,
Unless I've got one lit.

Non-smokers they all shun me...
Tell me just how bad I smell,
And with taxes, taxes, taxes,
The cost has gone to Hell.

Now my head's inside this oven,
You may think it's some weird joke,
But it's the only place inside our house,
That my spouse will let me smoke.

The cult of misery. It permeates the contemporary arts like a disease. If you've known someone close who has attempted suicide, it is not a nobel act.

(Cuban: I always thought ostriches did stick their head in the ground:)

Here's the poem you refer to written by E.A. Robinson (I had never read it before so had to look it up!:Richard Cory

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked:
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich-yes, richer than a king-
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish to be in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread:
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Life is not worth living, she thought. What is there to live for? He is gone. My love has left me behind. He was my life. For 32 years. Who am I without him?

Life is not worth living, she thought.

Or is it? Maybe tomorrow will be better. I'll wait until tomorrow...

i have come to terms with my washing machine and the whole missing sock thing

the earrings are comin' off and i'm takin' action!

I dont' want to do this
I don't want to die this way
I can't die this way
I don't know why I'm doing this
I'm as alone inside as is this oven
Oh darn! I didn't turn on the gas!

Have a great weekend Nancy.

Lord be lovin'! I looked in my oven
And saw a sight so weird!
Instead of rising with ample sizing
My cake had disappeared!

I tried to kill myself tonight
But had to take a pass
Electric oven did not work
I needed one with gas

It was the best dinner she had ever cooked
there would never be another like it
this was the pinnacle of her existence
it could only be downhill from here on
was there any more purpose to life
I doubt it

If I cannot take the pain of being alive, I will not go in such an undignified and uncomfortable way on my knees.

If it is pain that I am escaping, I should choose to do it with something that will be pleasant and let me drift off in bed with soft fluffy pillows and no contortions.

Accompanied by a glass of wine.

Oh, she's here, come quickly! See, there, those look like toes, right? ... I told you you'd be glad we cleaned the kitchen ... Well, I always believed in her promise - she said she'd be back, and look!! Do you think we should help? ... Oh, she's almost out now ... Yes, she must be freezing, quickly, go get her a blanket!
