Sometimes,
When I am on a drab and lonely journey,
I forget that it is just temporary.
The hypnotizing rhythm
will eventually stop,
and then...
The familiar tracks will be replaced
by colorful new places
and smiling faces.
On it goes, on it flows.
Where will it take me, this trail of woes?
I want rest, give us rest.
But on we go, we must be blessed.
No end in sight, no horizon to see.
And try as I might, I can not flee.
No turning back, I don't want to turn back.
It's not about me, but how I remove my lack.
I grew up on the wrong side of the rails
Where my pa smelled of whiskey
And was tougher than nails
Oh! How I wanted to roll outta town
To ride on the rails to the world beyond
Oh, how I wanted to find a new life
And sing my ol' hobo song
I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks
Where my ma taught me manners
With mighty hard whacks
Oh! How I wanted to roll outta town
To ride on the rails; see the world beyond
Oh, how I wanted to find a new life
And sing my ol' hobo song
I grew up on the wrong side of the line
Where I learned how to drink
Couldn't put down my wine
Oh, how I wanted to roll outta town
To ride on the rails to world beyond
But I barely can walk to the tracks I'm so drunk
So I sing my ol' hobo song
