Let the image inspire you. You don't have to write about the subject matter. Write about the first thought that comes to you :)

I met one of my best friends in a bar. She was our waitress, and my first impression of her was unkind to say the least. She was rude, impatient, and totally ignored us after our first round. I was rather bitchy back in those days, and I wanted to smack her silly since we were paying customers and we were there to celebrate our friends birthday. She and I had a few words, and before things got too heated, she stormed off. I found out later, from the bartender, that she had just lost her boyfriend. He had died the week before in a motorcycle accident. I approached her and told her how sorry I was about her loss. She broke down crying, and I guess we bonded because we became very close friends.

Her frozen toes can be seen
poking through cracked shoe leather, these shoes have seen many roads and known many lives.

"One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Her journey began many months ago
a journey to prove she had lived
before she died.

"Anyway, anyhow, anywhere."

To be alone on her own, away from home, that was her only goal. But as she trudges along flooded city streets she realizes, with a wry smile, that happiness found her like Santa on Christmas eve, every night it slipping some under her head like the tooth fairy.

"Who wants to be a millionaire?"

Feeling superior to those she left behind as she lies below another city bridge her mind wanders through cliched reality. Her shoes, a symbolic reminder of a life explored through the testing of kindness, mercy and grace.

"Through many dangers toils and snares I have already come. Twas grace that brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home"

"Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes, then you'll be a mile away and have his shoes" Said a wise old elephant to me one day as I passed him in this city jungle...

First three words I thought of:
Worn, Torn, Forlorn

I have to dig for memories for the last time I felt, worn, torn, forlorn. Of course, man troubles usually produce these conditions. But what stands out in my mind was feeling, worn, torn, forlorn, used, abused by business partners who jumped ship when things were not going well. I felt betrayed. And stupid.

That was many years ago. In many ways I've learned my lessons. But it's also made me afraid to go into business even though that's what my heart wants to do. Maybe I need to get rid of old shoes. Old fears. Put on running shoes to race again.
